Timing Belt Services
Timing belts have replaced timing chains in newer vehicles. The timing belt is a flat, rubber belt with teeth that controls the timing of the engine valves and pistons. If the timing belt breaks your vehicle will stop running and need to be towed into a shop.
There are two types of motors “interference” and “non-interference”. If your vehicle has an interference motor you may need to replace the engine, because when the belt breaks it causes the valves and pistons to collide. This causes damage to the valves, pistons, cylinder head and cylinder walls. If you have a “non-interference” motor you can simply replace the belt and be on your way.
Curt’s Service Recommends checking your Timing Belt every 60,000 miles or 6 years.
